This recent addition to my collection is a well performed selection of film and TV movie themes . Some of the entries are fairly obscure but surprisingly good. The selection is note quite what you might expect, no John Williams for a start, The Raider's March is a usual for this type of thing. I have to admit that quite a lot of the tracks can get a bit samey sounding, just a rousing tune, but nothing to distinguish it from the others. Particular mention must go to Flight of the Intruder by Basil Poledouris and King Solomon's Mines by Jerry Goldsmith as being a cut above the rest, but even these sound fairly similar to each other. You can see why John Williams is so admired when you listen to the fairly feeble attempt to imitate his style in the Jaws - The Revenge suite by Michael Small but with a credit to John Williams for the theme. Not that it is particularly bad, but there is nothing special about it. I was pleased to get my hand on a copy of the theme from The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles by Lawrence Rosenthal as the volume of the original soundtracks that I bought does not contain the theme, it is a bit "twee" in places, but is certainly a good alternative junior version of the John Williams grown up theme. I got it at a second hand CD shop and would not have bought it otherwise, but it is generally good although the performances actually outshine the music a lot of the time.
